Bella stood, bursting through the surface of the water and into the bright tropical sunlight. She laughed as she heard Katy and Ava wading after her. These swims from the island were one of the great daily pleasures that the girls had as their lives in London seemed so far away. Jobs, boyfriends, bars, restaurants, and picnics in parks were all becoming a distant memory. Three months here alone had brought them conflict, togetherness, and fear, but these were the moments of joy when they could forget about all of the confusing aspects of their lives on the island and enjoy the paradise they’d found themselves in. The island, which had seemed like an imposing continent when they first washed up on the shore in their life raft, was now something like a lush tropical life raft itself, not much larger than a children’s play area. They could barely get out of each other’s sight, let alone have any personal space. This had brought the young women an incredible closeness they had never known in the life before they were shipwrecked. As the days had passed, and the island seemed shrink around them, the foreboding and panic was replaced by a sense of helplessness when they realised they were growing. What would they eat now that the strange glowing cakes in the washed up crates was gone? How would they ever be rescued now? As it turned out, the cakes seemed to make their hunger vanish, and it hadn’t come back. As for rescue, soon they would be large enough to swim for land themselves. Which direction to go and what they would find when they got there was up for debate.

“Hello, what’s this?” As Bella wiped the salt water from her face, she glanced down towards the water. A bright shining object bobbed in the water in front of her. A prefect miniature ship, but the size of a bath toy bobbed on the surface of the sea just in front of her. She stepped forwards towards it and reached out a hand to scoop it out of the water.
