It's probably not an infinite loop, at least not an inescapable one. The game does that when there is nothing to do at that location. Hit the travel button and go somewhere else.

In this particular case you probably need to go home, wait until evening/night, tutor Kara, and then talk to her and tell her things with her ex-husband have been settled (assuming you've gotten the dude you work out with to go beat him up).
