You just need to rename "Com_Guard" to "Com_defense", and afterwards, "Com_Item" to "Com_Item Item". I created a copy of both files and renamed those, keeping the originals in place; but it let me get passed the first battle at least.
Not sure if there's any other broken links to images later in the game.
